Chris & David - Cape Forest & Rhodes Memorial
Broaching a wedding was a daunting task. Living in Australia, where we do not enjoy the right to same sex marriage, Chris and I looked through the net to find a place to have our special and precious day. We picked South Africa and finding Gay Unity Abroad was a blessing.
As with any site on the net, you have your doubts as to whether you will travel across the globe and be disappointed in some way. After my first telephone call with Kirsty from Gay Unity Abroad, these doubts were immediately dispelled. My partner and I looked at the packages and spoke to Kirsty about what we were hoping for in terms of the experience, our expectations and what was important to us. We were not disappointed. Kirsty and Gay Unity Abroad listen and understand. There was absolutely no question that our wedding day was going to be designed for us.
After travelling from Melbourne to Cape Town, we had a meeting with Kirsty and Patrick (who was to perform the ceremony for us) at our hotel. Both Kirsty and Patrick listened and quickly attuned to both of our thoughts and beliefs. They also helped fill in those blank spots that some spouses must have about their special day (what reading to pick, what vows are right for you).
My greatest fear was that the organisation of the day was going to be stressful. In that one hour meeting both my partner and I realised that Kirsty was going to take care of everything for the big day, all we had to do was be happy and enjoy. Happy we were. It was a dream day. We were picked up from our hotel in a white Bentley and chauffeured to a site that Kirsty had wisely chosen (the forecast was for rain). In a lovely forest setting by the Cecil Rhodes Memorial, Chris and I were married in a beautiful ceremony. Patrick performed the ceremony in a manner which respected our religious, moral and ethic beliefs and truly captured the spirit of our feelings to perfection. We were even treated to a rainbow in the background of our service. Perfect touches of rose petals, candles and a bottle of champagne made us smile even more.
Our photographer, Simone, did an amazing job and we have a wide array of stunning photos. So that we could mail our relatives and friends, Kirsty and Simone had a selection of photos available to us at our hotel that night for us to email.
I can recommend Gay Unity Abroad for anyone considering a marriage or civil ceremony in Cape Town without reservation. Everyone involved was caring, friendly, respectful, professional and so helpful. They gave us a special day that was beyond our expectations and made sure that the only thing you had to do on your wedding day was enjoy and treasure it. It was truly our day. Thank you Gay Unity Abroad. Thank you Kirsty, Patrick and Simone.
